To the hospital we go

The kids and I are heading to Greenville, SC and the Shriner's Hospital. J-man was born with pigeon-toed feet... not really a huge issue. We took him to a specialist when he was a baby and they told us he would grow out of it.

He hasn't.

He isn't in pain. He walks just fine. But I feel like I need to see if there is anything we can do to help him. I would hate for him to grow up and realize we could have corrected his feet while he was young.

Luckily, my step-dad is a Shriner and he is J-man's sponsor. The Shriner's hospitals are amazing and we are very lucky to be able to take him there. They take care of everything for us... doctor bills, hotel, food, everything.

When you see the men in the funny hats standing on the street corners collecting money they are doing it for the kids. Not to throw parties or buy those ugly hats... it is for the kids. My step-dad has sponsored another child that was born without a hand. That baby will be supplied with prothesis until he is 18 -- for free.

Anyways -- this isn't a post about the Shriners. It is about J-man. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. His appointment is for tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.; it could last up to 6 hours! We will be seeing all kinds of specialists who will then decide on J-man's course of therapy. I hope he won't need surgery... maybe just some braces or silly shoes. Maybe he won't need anything and they'll tell him he is fine... that he'll grow up with just a slightly turned in foot.

I'm starting to get nervous for him. He can't see that, though.

We'll get through this. He's a tough kid.

Mama? Not so much.

Hope the visit wasn't too painful for Mama.

The Shriners have greatly helped a friend of mine with two of her kids that have CP. Both of her children now have braces, and their care has been top notch all the way. The Shriners truly are doing the work of angels.

Shriner's Hospitals will work with you, and you can bet that Jarrett will get excellent care. I know it's hard for you, but you can be brave for his sake. I'll be thinking about you, and saying a prayer that all goes well.

The Shriner are a good organization for sure but I've often wondered what goes on in those secret meetings.

My thought and prayers will be with young J-Man.
