Birdsmoke

Walking in the upstairs hallway, Carl saw J-man in his bathroom and he was staring at himself in the mirror. Carl could tell he was up to something but had no idea what. It was the way J-man was looking so intent. And his posture seemed somewhat tense. Carl stopped to see what would unfold.

Suddenly, J-man moves.

Like a cowboy in Gunsmoke his left hand shoots up and points to the kid in the mirror. Was it a finger “gun” pointing at his reflection? Was he working on his quick draw?

Nope.

It was his middle finger.

Just as quick as it came up it went back down.

Carl said “Boy – what you doin’ in there?

J-man (jumping a foot in the air) – Ummmm… nothing.

C: I saw it.

J: OK, I was practicin’ but I won’t do it anywhere but here.

Yeah…. Right….

It doesn’t stop there. He came up to me at Bug’s soccer game and said, “Paw Paw, I got hair down there.”

I said, “You do? Let me see.”

J-Man: With a horror look on his face, “Nooooooo!”

I laughed and said, “Well, you know you were told that you are going through puberty and that things would be changing, and that’s one on the changers.”

J-Man: “Yeah! And when I’m 15 I’ll look like dad.”

I remember what a serious thing it was when I waited and waited and waited to have hair down there. Finally, ONE came in and it looked more like a mole hair, but I was set. But I had no one I could tell, like the J-Man does. I just had to wait until gym and we changed into our gym shorts. Proud Day.

I think it's a move worth practicing. He might need it when he learns to drive!

That is great!

I agree, he may need it one day. Good to be quick at it.

Interesting that the J-man is comfortable talking about "down there" with Coffeypot. Who would have guessed that my shy, quiet, prudish uncle would come through?

Isn't puberty wonderful? I swear, kids grow up too fast...

When J starts getting those teenage hormones and argues with you, check to see if those fingers are firing! It'll be interesting to see if he's a quick draw then! :)
