Saturday night was a special event for me.
I worked at Six Flags over Georgia for several seasons - six to be exact - and Saturday night was a reunion of workers from those days. I was so excited to see folks I haven't seen in YEARS and catch up with everyone in person. Several of us have been chatting over Facebook but to see them in the flesh is so much better!
Carl was pretty excited about going, too. He wanted to meet some of the people that knew me "back in the day" and get some scoop about who I was then. He was scheduled to work this weekend so he requested Saturday afternoon and Sunday off. It was approved.
He went in to work Saturday morning knowing he would be home around 3 to get ready.
Not so much.
His freakin' boss - who is the laziest shit in the world - called in "sick". He told Carl he felt awful that he wouldn't get to go to his wife's function, but he just couldn't make it in. He also said he didn't think he would make it in on Sunday either; he felt that bad.
I was in tears!
I told Carl we could go to the party late, but he didn't want to do that. We'd have to come home early so he could get up to go in and that wouldn't be fair to me. He wanted me to enjoy myself and not worry about him.
So I went alone.
It was fun. I got to see my peeps and catch up with folks I am crazy about.
I got home around midnight and crawled in bed. Carl got up at his normal time (4:30) and went to work as per usual.
When I woke up around 7:00 I decided to go get some breakfast. As I was pulling out of the driveway, Carl was pulling in. I stopped the car and asked him what he was doing home. Guess what?
His boss CAME TO WORK. An hour late, but he was there. He even told Carl that he "wanted" to come in the day before around 4, but just couldn't drag himself out of bed to do it. He also said "I don't feel like being here but I came in anyway".... cry me an f-in river. Carl told him "glad you made it now see ya" and took his day off.
Carl could have gone with me... he would have been tired, but at least he would have known he could come home and take a nap.
I haven't been that mad at someone in a looooong time.
Makes my blood boil just thinking about it.
