My company may be going through a process that involves signs and people walking in circles holding those signs while yelling about equal something or other. My group isn't directly involved but everyone in the company is being "reassigned" to another area so the company can keep running.
I received my assignment this morning.
I will be traveling to Eufaula, OK and doing something; the description on the matrix doesn't give me any details. I guess I'll find out exactly what I'll be doing when I take the 86 hours of web-based training and the 52 hours of instructor led. Yes, that is 138 hours of training... and travel to a city for possibly more than a month.
My boss is trying to get us deemed "essential" so we won't have to participate. In the mean time I have to figure out how I can continue to meet my deadlines in January while working in another state doing a job I know NOTHING about.
Love it.

The only word that kept coming to mind while reading this was ABSURD.
They have got to be kidding right?
Well, hugs to you sweetie. I would hate to see you away from the family for a month, but...it's like Pooldad said last night - aren't we all holding on to our jobs by the skin of our teeth?
Hang in there.
Ewh! Sister, I have been there before. Not Eufalua, well I've been there too, but the signs and walking and possible temporary reassignment. This last go around I was deemed essential, so I didn't have to deal with it.
Good news? Eufaula isn't far from the cabin - maybe I can see you!
That would be awesome! One of my coworkers has been assigned to OK as well, but another town completely.
I'll keep you guys posted. We are hoping to get reassigned as essential soon... good grief I hope we get reassigned as essential.
not that I don't want to see you, Cindy!!! I would LOVE to go to OK just for that reason!!!
I hope you are deemed essential. That seems like an awful lot of training time.
We use to go through that drill every time a contract came up, but cooler heads (and the threat by Lucent to replace anyone who went on strike) prevailed and we didn't have to relocate to fill in for those on strike. Good luck, but if you go I will help Carl out with the heathens.
So far from home? What a crock! I seriously hope that the powers that be rethink that, and you don't have to go.
