The scoop

It isn't necessary.

Whew

It is, however, an option. The surgery would not be as invasive as we thought it would be. They would make a six inch incision on both thighs, go in and break the bone, shift it until his legs align, then put plates and screws to hold it in place. He would not have to wear a cast, but he would have to stay completely off his feet for six weeks. He would have to ride in a wheel chair and sleep, eat and live downstairs.

There would be no therapy; he wouldn't have to learn to walk again. He would only be weak from not using his legs for six weeks. That would fix itself.

He has all the information. He doesn't want to talk about it right now. He wants to mull it over and ask questions in his time. He may not want to do it now, but who's to say what he will want when he is 16?

There is no rush. The hospital will keep his records on file until he is 18.

He isn't in any pain. He isn't tripping or falling because of it. He is healthy. He is happy. His turned in feet is a part of what makes J-man who he is. I don't know if I would recognize him any other way.

I don't want him to have it. But it isn't really and truly my decision. It is up to him. People may say he is too young to make that decision, but J-man is a mature 12 year old... you'd know it if you ever met him. He'll think it over (and over and over and over) and come to a decision. He is going back and forth now.

All I can do is love him and guide him. And pray.

Good luck to J-man. I think it's smart that you're letting him make the decision.

I'm happy that the news is good! I'm sure he'll make the right decision...

I'm glad the news is good. My sister received treatment at Shriner's years ago and she's a perky, healthy 23-year old now. Sounds like your son is weighing his options and he'll make a good decision.

Yippppeeee! So, so happy for you all - and you are raising a great boy - he will almost certainly make the best decision for himself

HUGS! :D

Well it wasn't the downpour that I was praying for, but it rained sufficiently enough for me to be thankful to God for answering my prayer that J-Man would hear encouraging news. When I was a bit younger than J-Man, my feet turned in and I was put in leg braces for a few years. The procedure didn't fully correct the problem, but when I got to high school I lettered in four different sports; baseball, football, basketball and track. God and I got a kick out of running circles around my fellow atheletes who were not so encumbered. Whatever J-Man decides to do I know that you and God will be right by his side. I love it when it rains!

Ah, that it is mandatory is good news. It is a tough decision though! My thoughts are with J-man as he grapples with it.

It hasn’t affected his aim any. He got me with a snowball last night that went into my shirt. And Bug was so funny. She yelled at me from the cat room, “Paw Paw, I have got to clean out the kitty litter now…OH MY LORD.” I laughed for ten minuets. My grandkids are the best.

Oh man. You sound like a good mom. My sister in law spent about a year in a body cast when she was little, this sounds much better.

I think it's wonderful of you to let him make the decision.

Just knowing he doesn't HAVE to do it should be some relief. And having the time to think about it is great too.

Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought...you are doing the right thing letting him have time to think about it...because in the end, it is him that has to live with whatever is decided...

I will pray for y'all....

Best of luck to J-man (and you) as he makes this decision.
