The little things

Noises really irritate me. Not large, rambling noises like cars, trucks, or loud television shows... more like when the kids tear paper, or tap on the table, or hum more than a couple of seconds. That kind of noise gets under my skin.

But there is one certain noise - above all others - that will send me over. the. edge.

Smacking gum.

Oh. My. God.

That sound drives me in-freakin'-sane. And then if you do that little bubble-pop with it, too! Ohhhh!!!!!

I got on the train this morning and grabbed a seat near one of the doors. It wasn't too crowded but there were people all around me. The bell went off, the doors closed, and... I heard it.

Smack, smack, pop, pop, pop, smack... the hair stood up on the back of my neck. I felt my whole body go tense. It was a girl sitting right behind me. She had on headphones so she couldn't hear how loud she was (like she'd really care). It was horrific.

I wanted to turn around and say something to her like "do you want to KEEP that gum" (Hi, Dad! Remember that one?), but she probably would have kicked my ass right there on the train. Instead I kept saying to myself "it's just for 10 minutes... just for 10 minutes". I could have gotten up and moved to another seat, but I decided to just deal with it. It was only for a few minutes... right?

I finally got to my transfer stop and got off the train. So did she, but she went in another direction. Phew!

Ok - whining done. Waaaaahhhh!

If that's happened to me yesterday I wouldn't have cared since for some really weird reason I woke up and my right ear was blocked (only half hearing) all day long. But on any other day, that would have driven me crazy too.

My beloved wife smacks gum like a hooker on 52nd Street.

I've learned to love the sound.

Yea, and I'm pretty whipped as well!

Now you can tolerate that for 10 minuets, you can handle four minuets on the stage shaking your tush.

OMG. I feel the exact same way. Several of my co-workers are the worst when it comes to chewing gum with their mouths open. Thank goodness I have my own office now.

Another peeve of mine: when someone clicks their mechanical pen over and over and over during class.

Smacking gum, a little annoying...sucking your teeth-very annoying! I have a guy that sits beside me that clips his fingernails at his desk like every hour or so, also very annoying...i am beginning to think he is a werewolf...
