All I can say is..

if what I saw on American Idol last night is the best America has to offer we are in for a looooonnnnng season. Those guys were pretty darn bad.

I hope the ladies do better tonight. They couldn't do much worse.

Check out other comments at American Idolatry... I don't think I'm alone in my observations.

Everybody looked really nervous. They're under such pressure and they all played it safe.

There are some good singers in the bunch, but, I really does take more than good singing. It's the core, the basis, but in order to get us to care, they have to have that something extra that is hard to pin down.

Simon was being reeeeeally hard on them but for the most part he's right.

I do think young Sinjaya was better than they gave him credit for. I predict that when (if) he gets it together he'll be a standout.

My kids like Chris Sligh with the big white guy afro.

You're not alone. Though I didn't really pay a whole lot of attention (was working on computer issues) the bits and pieces I saw were pretty... blah. I'm hoping they got their first time jitters out of the way now and really give us something to look forward to. If not, I won't keep watching.

I agree with Heidi. I too like Chris Sligh (Jack Osbourne look-a-like). Sinjaya is cute and probably a heart throb for teenagers. It will take me a few more shows to figure out who is who, but the guy that had a baby the day before his original audition did a good job last night and the beat box guy that did the Keane song was pretty good. I was just relieved he didn't break out the beat box during the slow song.

I'm watching the girls now, and they are not impressing me too much.
