Put in my place

The kids and I went out to dinner tonight. I didn't want to go because I was, basically, exhausted. BUT I didn't want to cook either. Carl is working this evening so it was up to the kids where we went. Moe's... only the best!

On the way the kids were chattering on and on and on. They would ask me a question and I would answer them. Finally Bug spoke up...

B: I'm not going to say anything any more

Me: Why?

B: Because I'm getting on your nerves.

M: What makes you say that?

B: Whenever I ask you a question you kind of huff and puff like I'm making you angry or something. And I don't want to do that.

Needless to say, that woke me up and made me realize I WAS being kind of snappy. I told her that I was sorry and I am glad she let me know I was making her feel that way. I said I would do my best to be more patient and listen to what she has to say.

I must admit that after that exchange I wasn't nearly as tired and I was more in tune with what the kids wanted to tell me. We had a great dinner and good conversation.

I love those kiddos! Even when they put me in my place.

You have such sweet kids, Marni. Must come from having two great parents......Oh, and a pretty decent grandpa, too.

Wow! So perceptive! I think it's great that it went that way-- I've seen it go the other way and that will ruin your evening. It's so much better to have some understanding.

Being a mother is mind blowing, eh?

Marni, come over to my imaginary Christmas party tomorrow ok?
