Sex ed

I have realized that the best conversations with my son occur in the car. When it is just the two of us. And I don’t have his Dad to help me answer his questions or carry forward the conversation. Maybe J-man trusts me? I’d like to think so (especially since I am the one that does the most yelling and discipline these days)

Case in point…

He had a doctor’s appointment yesterday in which we wound up having to go do “lab work”. On the way home from the lab, J-man casually mentions that he knows where babies come from.

M: You do? So where do they come from?

J: A sperm from the boy goes into an egg from the girl.

M: (I’m starting to freak a bit) Oh, really? Do you know how that happens?

J: (cutting his eyes at me and blushing slightly) Um…. Yeah

M: How?

He takes the index finger on his right hand and quickly inserts it into the ring his index finger and thumb have made with his left hand. Then drops his hands in his lap.

M: Oh. Yep. That’s how it’s done. (in my head I'm thinking - did he just do that?!)

J: Bet you didn’t know I knew about that kind of stuff! And I’m gonna learn a lot more about it next year.

M: (really freaking out now) How? Are you gonna… umm… DO it?

J: (looking horrified) – NOOOOOO – I get to take another health class!

Yeah, in hindsight, I realize I shouldn't have asked that, but it was the first thing that popped in my head. As I wiped the sweat from my forehead, I realized he is no longer a baby and he is learning so much. Thank GOD he wants to talk about it and feels comfortable doing so. With me.

I need to have a more detailed conversation with Kid L, but I have been putting it off.

Kid L is very open with us. I can only hope hat she stays that comfortable talking about her body.

LOL! I'm sitting here visualizing that cute little spiked head and the finger-and-thumb demonstration ... and I can't stop laughing. Oh, and the part where you assumed he was planning to do it instead of learning it at school? Also damn funny.

I am wondering what you would have done had he answered "Yes, ofcourse.".

Crashed the car?

I remember asking my uncle when I was five if he and his wife did it. I didn't quite know what "it" was but I knew it was something grownups did!! LOL...I wonder if your son was horrified about doing it, or that you had actually asked him!!

Cat: Yep. My insurance premiums would be sky high today

Life: Carl would have a heart attack if Jordand talked to him... I keep telling him that the day is coming!

Brat: With his selective hearing that is definitely what he will remember --- great!

Klee: The more things change, the more they stay the same. The international language of "doing it"!

Claudia: I don't know what horrified him... I hope it was the thought of doing it...
