I've been out of the loop for a couple of days.
One of my best friends, PT, owns her own consulting firm for instructional design. She started working for the same company I do, but retains many of her contacts. She will occasionally receive some work and contracts it out.
Being that I am an instructional designer she asked me to take on this next contract. It is GOOD money and lord knows we need it. But it is a HUGE undertaking. I am creating a 3-4 hour web-based training course (WBT) as well as a 1.5 to 2 day instructor led course (ILT). Under normal conditions, the WBT would take about 150 - 200 hours to create and the ILT would take about 360-400 hours. Low end? About 500 hours.
Yeah... my deadline is June 30. A little over 30 days.
And I am only able to work on nights and weekends.
Needless to say, I had a MAJOR panic attack last night. I was ready to give it up, but I can't. We need the money. I have to keep telling myself that I was already looking for a part-time job. I will make more cash in 30 days doing this than I would in 6+ months working retail. I am working from home, doing something I really like to do, and I'm not dealing with the public. Plus it is seriously good moolah.
So I sucked it up... got a draft of the WBT started and sent it to our client. And PT and I haven't even submitted our contract yet.
I feel like I have a handle on it, but I'm sure there will be at least two more panic attacks in the future. One when I get the initial feedback for the WBT and a second when I dive into the ILT materials.
I may not be around much the next few weeks. I take breaks and read blogs - and possibly comment on them - but I am going to be heads down trying to get this done.
It will be awesome in the end. I won't have to get that part-time job and I'll be able to add a HUGE project to my resume. You know... silver lining.
I'm doing weird things with my banana.
