Kids... sheesh

Carl went to get J-man from school yesterday to take him to the orthodontist. He used the opportunity to ask his teachers how he was doing and whether or not there were any missing assignments that J-man needed to complete.

The report?

He is making an "A" in all of his classes. He has turned in all of his homework AND classwork. One teacher even said that he is one of the "leaders" in his class.

Ummm... hello?

What alien came down and replaced my son?

I'm lovin' it.

And Bug?

Carl called this morning asking how to remove eye makeup. It seems my sweet, precious daughter got into my makeup bag and painted her face. He said she looked like a raccoon.

I didn't get to wear makeup until I was 15 -- and even then I didn't really care about it. She's 9! All of a sudden my girl has gone from tomboy to giggling pre-teen. (Thanks, Vanessa Hudgens and the whole HSM2 gang.)

For all the ladies out there: how old were you when you were allowed to wear makeup? Do I teach her how to apply it NOW or wait.

Help!

Great news on your son! Sounds like he's really turned things around.

Oh, and I started wearing makeup when I was 21. I was a late bloomer.

Yay J-man!! WOOT!!!

I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was in highschool, and even then the rules were very stringent being that I went to a Catholic private school. But I do remember experimenting with it around age 10 or so, only in the house though, never going out.

I may have started wearing a little make-up in junior high, but it wasn't until high school that I wore it regularly.

Nine does seem awfully young.

I agree 9 is way to young. I don't mind her wearing light colored lip gloss, but eye shadow and liner is a no-no.

I would love to have seen Carl's face when he first saw her. I can here him now, "Girrrrlllll, what the hell are you doing?" She want's to be "big" so much.

And the J-Man, it was there all along, just needed the righ combination of "stuff" to bring it out.

My parents were really strict about makeup - it was an absolute rule that I couldn't wear anything more than lipgloss until I started high school. However, I do remember getting into my mom's makeup bag and playing around with it (when she wasn't looking!) when I was about Bug's age.

I wasn't allowed to wear anything until I went to high school and even then it was only lipgloss and a little mascara.

When we went to open house last week, I realized halfway there that Kid L's lips were shimmery. It was clear lip gloss but still...

I got my first real make-up in 6th grade (the start of junior high). It was the palest of pale Clinique blush. By the time junior high ended I was in full blown material girl mode with green, purple, and blue mascara.

Oh, congrats to J-man! That really is fantastic news. He should be very proud.

Way to go, J-man!!!

As for Bug, WAIT!!!! Just my opinion, but kids are growing up way too fast these days. It's normal for her to be curious and experiment (at home) but I'd but the kabosh on makeup until at least 13 or 14 and even then, I'd keep it to a minimum. Maybe just some chapstick-type lip gloss (you know the kind I mean, right?), but otherwise, no way. Just my 2 cents since you asked.

Great news for J-Man! I knew that he could do it!

As for Bug..I say, teach her how it apply it, and then only let her wear it in/around the house. I used to let Jessica wear the lip gloss, too. Yesterday, I saw her wearing eye shadow (actually, it could have been earlier today, I'm not really sure, it's been a long week), and I almost fell out of my chair. She never wears eye make up. She is starting grade 8 on Tuesday, though, so as long as it isn't too much, I'll let her wear it...

agree with biddie let bug experiment with make up at home but don't let her wear it out and about

I think I was 11, but my mom just ordered me some avon stuff from the lady who lived across the street from us... I could have cared less about it though. When I hit college i stopped wearing it altogether except for when I had to work...

I think a bit of lip gloss and mascara is ok in Grade 7 - but I notice that every rule I have about stuff like this seems to change. My Grade Oner is dying to wear make up - I tell her she can wear it when she goes to University, but that's what I say about everything, including dating - after University!! :0)
