If you watched American Idol last night you got to see the crying girl in the audience. She was so excited to be there and see all of her favorites (especially Sanjaya - huh?) that she lost it. It wasn't a sweet little tear-rolling-down-the-cheek cry either... it was one of those UGLY cries. Her face was all bunched up and red. She had little spit stings on her lips. Bless her heart!
But it made me think back to the couple of times I cried at a "concert".
The first time was when I was about 7 or 8. I was in L.O.V.E. with Donny Osmond. The whole Osmond clan came to Atlanta for a concert at the Omni. Now keep in mind, this was in the 70's before they perfected the concert venue. The speakers were shabby and the sound effects were nil.
Every time Donny - or Jimmy - came up to sing, the girls would scream so loud you couldn't hear them. I sat in my seat and cried and cried and cried. Dad even tried to move us closer to the stage but it didn't work. I couldn't hear Donny at all.
The next was at Six Flags when I was about 10 years old. My mom took me because some of my favorite people on earth were going to be there. It wasn't a musical concert. It was some kind of promotional tour with the heartthrobs of the day. Who were they? Scott Baio, Willie Aames and Lou Ferrigno...
When Scott walked out on that stage I LOST it. I swear I looked like one of those girls you see on the Beatle's film clips. I was jumping up and down, screaming "Scott!!!!" and crying like, well, that girl last night. I'm kind of embarrassed about it now...
I hope that little girl -- I think her name was Ashley -- doesn't get made fun of at school. She's a young kid seeing her idols; the people she loves and admires the most in the world. I thought it was sweet... And at the end of the show when she got to meet all of them... that is an experience she will NEVER forget. Good for her.

You made me smile!
I saw Donny Osmond when he was Toronto doing Joseph and The Amzing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He was wonderful, and at a few times during the show, he caught my eye and looked directly at me! ( I was on the balcony directly over head, sneezing and coughing. I had a fever of 103-104 that night. Believe me, he noticed me!)
When I was 16 I met Tom Eplin and Ellen Wheeler from Anotther World. It was at a charity event. I had always made fun of screaming crying girls up until then. I made so much noise that I interrupted a telethon and was warned by security to shut up or get out. I ended up actually MEETING tom Eplin and speaking with him that day.
My friends still talk about it.
SO humiliating.
Ohhh Scott!! SCOTT!! SCOTT!!!
I had a crush on Grizzly Adams. LOL I never seen him I know I would have lost it. I married someone who is really close to the real thing.
Sanjia is.. umm... not a good singer. But his hair and teeth are winning him through.
I cried the same way when I saw my first John "The Wad" Holms movie.
I was thinking last night that Ashley may be on stage performing on day. Wouldn't that be something?
Heck I got choked up at that kid!
It really is emotional when you admire somebody so much and then you're in the same room with them. But then I cry at dog food commercials so what do I know?
Was she an "Ugly Betty" look alike or what? So when did colored braces come in? I liked the blue ones she had on.
Actually, I doubt she will be made fun of at school because all the girls will be jealous that Sanjaya hugged her and that she had her 5 seconds of fame on International TV.
I've never cried when I saw someone in concert but it was really hard to hear the Back Street Boys through all the little girls screaming. My ears rang more from that concert than AC/DC (back in the day).
Love Donny (especially Marie) but I was TOTALLY into the Brady Bunch. I just so happened to see them in concert at the Atlanta Civic Center when I was about 7 or 8. It was awesome. I sang every song with them. When we left, we were over on the side of the building and they all left on that side of the building to get into the limo. I actually saw them running to the limo. I was so excited. I was a dork!
