My first memory or two

I was asked about my first memory. I actually have two... I don't know which one is actually my first, but I was about the same age in both. One is kind of boring - the other is traumatizing...

When I was little my parents lived in an apartment near where Dobbins Air Force Base is located. I don't know if we lived on the first or second floor, but my memory is of sitting at the top of the stairs. The stairs were on the inside of the building and had black wrought iron rails. I am sitting on these stairs and looking out the window above the entry way door...

The other happened at a day care center called The Kiddie Dude Ranch. I am on a rocking "boat" with other kids. This boat is similar to a see-saw but it rocks... we are going pretty fast and pretty high (especially to a two year old!) There is someone next to me and two little boys on the other side. Suddenly I flip off the seat backwards and watch as the side of the boat rocks down onto my shoulder... and then it goes up and comes back down again. I finally get enough sense to roll out from underneath.

That is the day I broke my collar bone. I don't remember going to the doctor or even what it was like wearing the sling... I just remember watching the boat come down. VERY scary!

That is scary. I remember a rocking boat like that from preschool. I guess it's standard.

We lived on the bottom floor across the hall from a 6’4” 275 lbs cop and his 5’2 98 lb wife. I always wondered...
The couple upstairs was our good friends, old what’s his name and his wife. Your mom might remember their names, but not me.
I broke my heart to see you walking around with your arm in a sling attached to your chest so you couldn’t move it. But you never cried or complained. You just soaked up the love and attention, and had the best disposition. What happened?

Oh you poor little thing!

Myhusband had a broken collar bone when he was a kid. Actually he broke it three times. When we were teenagers i could feel the break spot. It was years before I could rest my head on that shoulder!

You're doing really good. I can barely remember what happened yesterday. Most of my stories? If I can't remember, I make it up.
