I am devastated by the death of Steve Irwin. I loved the guy. He was charming, funny, and a family man. He opened my eyes to another world of animals and left me wanting to travel to other places to see what he has seen. One of my goals was to go to The Australia Zoo and meet all of his crocodiles and see what he and his family had created.
I started watching The Crocodile Hunter when J-man was small. We would laugh at Steve's antics and wonder just how big his kahuna's were to get that close to crocs.
Everyone thought it would be a crocodile to take him out -- instead it was a barb from a stingray. Shocking.
In his 44 years he did so much to educate people about animals and conservation. His voice will be missed... My thoughts and prayers go out to Terri, Bindi, and Bob.
Zesty.

I am totally shocked his death, too. I agree that he did do so much to educate the world, but I always thought that he was being irresponsible by endangering himself the way that he did. He had a family and a ersponsibility to them, first. Now he's gone, and his family will suffer.
It's so sad, really, because he was so young and had so much more living to do...
I agree, but the only way to educate - in his mind - was to get that close.
It really is sad. I feel for any child that loses a parent, especially a young child.
It's these simple twists of fate that give us all an appreciate for life.
